Copy and Paste ImageThis has been an odd error I have been encountering for quite some time on my XP machine.  Suddenly my clipboard just disappears, and Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V or right click copy and paste, just stops working.  The problem occurs across all applications, and is highly annoying.  The only fix previous to today was to shutdown and reboot the computer entirely.  Quite effecient really.

Then today I discovered that the clipboard was being locked by mstsc.exe, basically Microsoft Terminal Services.  Noting that I did have a Remote Desktop Connection open to one of my servers (very common for me).  Shutting down all Remote Desktop Connections, suddenly returned my clipboard and copy + paste back to my machine.

I'm not 100% sure what is going on, but the RDP session and my computer do share a clipboard to conviently copy + paste between machines.  I'm guessing that somewhere along the line that synching goes askew and breaks the clipboard.  Either way, just shutting down the remote connections is a quicker solution than killing your whole machine.

same thing happens to me. I will have 4 mstsc.exe consoles going, but I only have to close one to release the lock. It's like playing Russian roullet
